Ruffian had a grand time at the GRCA Central Regional Specialty weekend hosted by Central Oklahoma Golden Retriever club on November 16-18. Due to other commitments at the show I was only able to show her in the Veteran Sweeps class on Saturday, but in a class of 5 Champion girls, she won 3rd place! Of course she was high as a kite and I had to run my tail off to keep up with her on the go-round.
Saturday we also won the Versatility class (one of my favorite obedience classes where you perform 2 Novice, 2 Open and 2 Utility exercises - you don't know which exercises until just before you show). In addition she won the Veteran Obedience class.
On Sunday I had entered Ruffian in the WC and WCX tests. She only needed to pass one of the tests to qualify for a GRCA Triathalon Award. She was wonderful on the WCX land series although I had to re-heel her before sending her on the final bird that fell (she is a bit creepy!). On the water she broke, but I was able to call her back to heel without interfering with the working dog so she passed. After that the WC test was a lark for her. We were so fortunate to have wonderful weather for the weekend, and, although exhausted at the end of the event, we had a grand time!
A bonus was getting to watch some of Ruffian's pups earn titles, legs and ribbons in conformation, obedience and field events during the weekend.
